Deity Significance
Lord Ayyanar, also known as Shasta, Sastha Bhagavan, or Aiyanar Swamy, is a Shaiva and Samana warrior deity widely worshipped in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Sri Lanka. He is venerated as the protector of village boundaries (Gramadevata), often seen riding a horse and accompanied by fierce guardians like Karuppasamy or Veerabhadra. Ayyanar’s temples are iconic for their colorful and giant statues.
