About this piece
Description
This 6.5-inch Annapurna idol is handmade in Panchaloha bronze, measures 16 x 12 x 6 cm and weighs 900 grams. It depicts Annapoorna Devi, the Hindu goddess of food and nourishment, in the Chola style of South Indian bronze work, with a golden finish, and sits between a small shelf murti and a large temple bronze in size.
Artisans cast the figure in Panchaloha, the traditional five-metal bronze alloy used for temple icons, and finish it by hand. It is a newly made piece, not an antique.
Annapurna Devi, also called Annapurneshwari and Maa Annapurna, is a form of Goddess Parvati. Her name means 'full of food', and she is worshipped for a household that never lacks nourishment.
